As a first time, mom, I was very captivated by everything I read about being a mom, all the new baby items, and what to expect. I would read blogs, books, and watch plenty of YouTube videos to try to prepare myself the best I possibly could. Of course, every video I watched had different baby supplies that were sworn to be needed and the pressure to make sure I was completely ready for what was coming in nine months was real. And that pressure only doubles when I found out I was having twins.
I tried to make a very well thought out, well researched list of everything I felt like I needed, and I still stand by my top 10 baby items, you can find that post here! (Insert last post)
When I first became pregnant, the one thing I heard, over and over again is that I wouldn’t be able to prepare myself for the amount of diapers I would need. And then, when I found out, I was having twins that thought tripled in my mind. Even though I felt very prepared, and just thought to myself, I can go get more diapers if I need to, I was constantly ordering and re-ordering diapers! Especially with twins, and now, for four under two the amount of diapers I go through is just insane!
Now, please make note that my small compilation here is not to say you should not have or get these items, I am just letting you know of my own personal experience and letting you know why I would not have bought these items or probably get them again!
Let’s Start with – The Ubbi Trash Can
I saw these on so many list and loved the idea of them. It was one of the first things I picked up off of Facebook marketplace when I was looking for items. Somewhere to instantly put dirty diapers especially if you’re upstairs and need to get rid of them quickly seemed like a great plan. The problem I found with this was that I really needed to change the trash quite frequently if I didn’t want an odor to develop and even the coal absorption pads did not keep the smell away! Eeek! I still really like the idea of these but, they were not convenient for me.
The Wipe Warmer
First of all, I totally understand why this is a baby product I see a lot on many lists. The idea of having warm wipes for your baby is very compelling we as mommas want the very best for our babies and never want them to be uncomfortable; BUT, I found that the wipes were literally cold two seconds after I took them out of the wipe box. I also found them a little hard to refill and keep a steady flow without having to constantly open the box and feed the wipes through again. With the wipes not staying warm for very long and it being more of a hassle to refill the wipes, for me this product was a no,
a bunch of new baby outfits
This one is hard too because buying new baby clothes is so much fun and so hard not to do! We want our babies to always be dressed in the cutest clothes and we can’t resist the cuteness when we see those darling shoes attached with a cute little hat with the pink dinosaurs BUT if you have at least one kid you probably know that babies mostly just wear onesies and footie pajamas all day! You want them to be warm and comfortable and new moms don’t leave the house that much. I honestly didn’t think about this either when I was pregnant with my first boys. Staying at home, wearing comfy clothes and cuddling your baby is all you are going to want to do until your baby is easily wearing a size 3-6 months, Also, new babies tend to get the cutest clothes from everyone else! All the grandmas and aunties etc. want to get the new baby the cutest clothes; so no need to go over board in this area!
baby shoes
Baby shoes was an interesting one for me at first, I loved the idea of my baby in cute little baby shoes especially when went on any outings. But when I looked more into baby shoes I found out that babies are really not supposed to be wearing shoes. It is not good for their soles and their little feet should not be confined in tight shoes really until they have to be. It is important to keep their feet warm though! Socks are a must and these are my absolute favorite socks. They never fall off and are the cutest on that I never think the babies even need shoes!
Let’s end with A Fancy bassinet
When I was first pregnant I thought I needed both a bassinet and a pack’n play for different reasons. The bassinet would be for baby when they first born and sleep near me and then the pack’n play would be for travel or play. I found this great packn’ play though that was big enough for twin babies and small enough to sit right next to my bed! I slept both sets of twin in this pack’n play until they were each about 6 months old and then slept them in their own pack’n plays to give them more room. Its the best!
*The hiccapop is a great little mattress too that allows the baby to be comfortable sleeping just like a bed topper!
